Possibly, for those with extreme mental disorders, but one could argue that some mentally ill people have a heightened sense of reality and don’t like what they see… Many people with mental issues are talented in the arts and literature suggesting they are very tuned in with the real world, perhaps more so than most others, hence their understanding and ability to portray life in minute details (through painting and poetry for example). Many people who are judged to be sane and clear-headed, the “normal” ones with families and jobs etc, often do not notice such details, and are merely content to just plod on through life – one could say that it is those people who are missing the bigger picture… There are of course many forms of mental deficiency (and many causes for it). I am not talking about the ones who need strait jackets and constant care, but the “eccentrics” out there, those who are deeply troubled, unstable yet incredibly gifted.
