Is it true that hinduism is the oldest religion in the world?
Hinduism–in a form not exactly the same as modern Hinduism–is the oldest *surviving* religion and its artifacts date back to the Neolithic era (cave paintings). Ancient Hinduism and Persian religion (Zorostrianism) are different but probably developed from the same root, and ancient European polytheistic religions also include deities that have counterparts in the the Vedic (ancient Hindu) pantheon and so are probably derived from a related early core religion. Names of deities from these ancient pantheons also can be traced back to a very ancient language that is related to Sanskrit. Shamanism is not a “religion,” but it is a type of spiritual expression that is integral to some forms of religion. Although there many people today who claim to practicing reconstructions of pagan religions, historians and anthropologists point out that reconstruction is not the same as the original.
