Is it true that hard water depletes copper pipe?

NO!!!! Hard water will not cause pinholes or corrode. What it will do is form a build up and over a long period of time actually clog a pipe. Hard water is either calcium or magnesium or both. It is the same build up you see on your shower or sprayer on faucet. Acid water or water with a low ph will cause pinhole leaks and corrosion, so will coupling that go from metal to copper. So will grounding electricity to pipe. Hard water can be fixed with a water softener. A crosion problem is a little harder to fix cause you have to know more about what is causing the corrosion.
