Is it true that graduate courses are graded on an A-C curve?
Yes. Any grade below a C is a failing grade. More generally, a grade of C is considered to be unsatisfactory, although not failing, and should be avoided. All graduate students are required by the College to maintain an overall B average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale). Should a student fall below a B average, he/she is put on probation until the average is brought up to the required level. If the average is not brought up, the student is asked to leave the program. For doctoral students it is expected that a student will achieve a grade of A in at least some courses. This is especially important in the courses whose material appears on the written comprehensive exams.
