Is it true that film contains animal gelatine?

0

Yes. It appears that all film manufactured commercially today contains silver halide crystals suspended in a gelatine emulsion, which is animal-derived protein – boiled animal bones and hides. I believe all major film manufacturers use animal gelatine, but please email me if you know of any which don t. This is obviously a problem for people who, for ethical, religious or philosophical reasons, want to avoid animal-based products. If you find this a matter of concern you might want to consider digital photography. Digital cameras and printers have obvious environmental issues surrounding their production and eventual disposal, but animal gelatine is not, to the best of my knowledge, used.
