Is it true that CSL International foreign crew works under poor conditions?
A7. No it is not true. The fact is that CSL International pays, on average, 35% more than its competitors in the international shipping business. The foreign crews manning the foreign-based vessels of CSL International are from Ukraine. While the international crews are, nominally, paid less than Canadian crews, their income taxes are also much lower. The cost of living in their home country is also lower, so they are earning a good living for themselves and their families. Moreover, the hours worked by these foreign crews are similar to those performed by Canada Steamship Lines Canadian crews.
