Is it true that cockroaches could survive a nuclear explosion?

By coincidence my calendar yesterday told me that roaches: – can hold their breath for more than 30 minutes – can live for a week without their head – need water and will die after a week without it – have been on the earth for hundreds of millions of years – can withstand radiation equivalent to that released from a nuclear explosion.

Yes i heard they would be the only things that would make it thru a nuclear blast.

They could not survive the blast itself, they’d be blown to bits just as easily as any other life form. But those Cockroaches who were sheltered enough to not take the full brunt of the blast, could survive the nuclear fallout easily, and eventually thrive in the new Human-Free environment.

Not the explosion no – but they can withstand more radiation exposure then we can.
