Is it true that an S.U.B. climbs steep off-road trails better than a regular bike does?
Sometimes. The FreeRadical attachment extends the wheelbase and, when loaded, lowers the center of gravity of the bicycle. The bike is less squirrelly when climbing hills and is more stable over rough surfaces, an effect we attribute to the FreeRadical’s secret ingredient: GravityAdvantage JuJu. Because the lengthened wheelbase brings your weight relatively closer to the front wheel, you never have to worry about the front wheel coming off the ground; steering is thereby greatly enhanced. This in turn lets you focus on powering up steep sections and maneuvering through obstacles. An Xtracycle S.U.B also plows through snow, ice and sand better than a regular short-length bike, recovers better from fishtails and often has better traction when loaded. When unloaded, and riding on loose terrain, rear-wheel traction is not as good on the uphill. An even pedal stroke helps this, which is greatly facilitated by toe-clips or clipless pedals.
