Is it true that ALL students wishing to enroll into any CHIN-titled course are required to attend a placement interview?
Yes, it is. There are two major changes regarding this procedure. A. Before 2010, placement interview was only required for students registering Chinese language courses. Starting from September 2010, ALL students who want to take Chinese literature courses (All 400 level courses) are also required to go through a placement procedure for registration. B. Before May 2011, our placement procedure was administered in a face-to-face interview fashion at UBC (scheduled once a month). Many students find it inconvenient due to time conflicts or long distances. Starting from June 2011, the new Online Placement System will replace the old face-to-face interview, offering much more flexibility for students to go through this procedure on line anytime and anywhere at their convenience. (See Placement for details) All students must submit the Placement Approval provided by the online systemto the instructor at the first class. Students who fail to do so may be removed from the class.
