Is it true Ray Romano never liked the title of the series “Everybody Loves Raymond”?
With it’s solid ratings, bushelful of Emmy nominations and critical praise, it’s clear that everybody loves “Raymond” even if the star of the series has never cared much for the title. To this day, Ray Romano, for whom the sitcom was built and on whose real life is based, says he would feel uncomfortable warming garments that sport the show’s logo. “I can’t do that,” he says. “I’ve come to terms with the face that I’m not going to change it, but a little of me regrets that I didn’t put up more of a fuss in the beginning.” Romano knew some people would turn the title into a taunt, but that didn’t bother him as much as the idea that it might keep potential viewers from watching. “I have this theory that people who don’t know the show — and maybe in year five, those people are find are find — they still hear the title, people who don’t know me or anything, and it just sounds like it’s not an adult sitcom. I thought we had to fight that in the beginning and for the first couple of years”
