Is it True, Idol worshiping prohibited in Hinduism ?
You’re right, Hinduism does believe in One God and that that He is called by various names. But, nothing is prohibited in Hinduism–in the sense, that ultimately even the worst of sinners will reach the Divine. Hinduism only gives a bunch of guidelines for seekers wanting to reach the Divine soon. So, the real question is, is idol worshiping a hindrance on the path to the Divine, or is it a boon? The answer is, it depends. Let me elaborate: 1. An idol is a pointer to the Truth. For example, a mother tries to show the moon to her child that she is holding in her arms. She does this by pointing her index finger at the moon and telling the child, “see the moon.” Initially the child thinks that the mom’s finger IS the moon.
