At 14, you’re far from too old to learn cello! In fact, I bought my first (and only) cello when I was 41 because I’d always loved the instrument and had time to devote to learning how to play it. Your experience with other instruments will be helpful, though learning bowing technique is challenging. But there are many, many cellists who didn’t begin playing until they were your age or much older. You’re actually at a great age to take up a new instrument. You’re old enough to know that you sincerely want to play cello, which is half the battle. Many people who start playing when they’re really small wind up getting frustrated (short attention spans) and quitting, but you’ve obviously been thinking about cello for a long time. As long as you’re willing to work through the challenges inherent to learning a new instrument, you’ll do very well.
