Is it still a 68 302 J Code?

Ok, so I bought an engine that I was told was a 302 J code with the casting numbers “C8OE-6015A.” So I know its a ’68 motor which is a 289 or 302. Then I looked at the heads and they both have 302 and 4V stamped on them and they have matching numbers to the block so I established that its most likely a J code. But now as I was gutting the engine and disassembling it, I noticed another number that was stamped on the block behind the intake manifold that look similar to a vin number. I was reading previous threads and read that I guess on certain parts, they would put partial VIN numbers on them. And as I was looking at the number on my block, I didn’t see the “J” in it, so I was a bit concerned. Is this still a “J” code 302? The number on the block reads “8R504823.” Can anybody help me decode this? The VIN on my car reads “8R93J512035.” I’m trying to put a J code back into my XR7. Any help would be appreciated.
