Mixed belt is safer than straight out belting, but you still need to know the proper technique in ordere to prevent injury. Even mixed belt can put unneccesary strain on your voice, which will damage the chords if you are not taught the proper way to belt. I was in the same situation- I was an alto all the way through elementary, middle, and high school then was told when I got to college that I was a soprano (senior year my teacher suspected). Your voice will smoothen out and strengthen in the upper registers with more training. As long as you continue training and make sure your teacher actually knows what they’re doing, you’ll learn proper technique. Your mixed belt will be place din the proper forward positing with more training and your breaks will smoothen out. Do a lot of sliding warm-ups, trying to place your voice in the same place every time. A G4 should feel like it’s coming out of the same place as a D6.
