Is it safer to fly in a small plane or a big plane?

In general terms, large planes are safer – and definitely safer if you compare commercial flights on any size plane to small private planes. But the safety may have less to do with the equipment than with the longer experience of pilots and crew that fly the major airlines – though I would confess total ignorance about commercial pilot requirements and training in that area of the world for large or small airlines. But anywhere in Australia to anywhere in NZ is a long enough flight that I don’t think you will be on anything that would be considered a small airliner. Even the smaller of the airliners in common use are very safe.
