Yes, Is it safe to use regular speaker wire in the wall since there isn`t a lot of electricity running through it, and it is covered with a tough plastic. I do believe that speaker wire is rated to be in the wall, but you should be more worried about interference. Unshielded speaker wire is susceptible to interference from electrical wire that may be close to your speaker wire in the wall. This will create a humming noise that you won`t be able to bet rid of.
