Is it SAFE to use BioDiesel in my Diesel Engine?
With BioDiesel that meets the ASTM D-6751 specification, there have been over 45 million miles of real-world driving with B20 blends in a wide variety of engines, climates, and applications. Our feeling is that provided you are careful & follow common sense guidelines, you can make BioDiesel yourself which can meet or come very close to this D-6751 specification. It is imperative that any fuel you burn (home made or commercially made) is clean & bone dry because water or contaminates can damage your injection pump & fuel injectors. That is why we recommend washing & drying your BioDiesel. Our engine a 1991 Cummins is our test vehicle & has been burning B100 or B30 – B50 blend with #2 Diesel without any ill effects or difficulty. While it burns BioDiesel without problems during the warmer months when the temperature does not dip much below 50F.
