Ozz is pretty much a safe backpacking country. When I was in Uni in Perth, me and some buddies flew in to Karratha in the Pilbara range. Because this is fairly hot country, most important thing to assure is the water supply. Then once, we went down to Albany, south of Western Aus…an old whaling town, beautiful countryside along the way, with plenty of things to do, besides oggling the sheilas. LOL. We never had any problem with navigation since we had excellent maps, though my group had a terrific disagreement about the food, what to eat and so forth. So i think it’s really best to travel alone, though there are also disadvantages of doing so. You didn’t specify the area where your son would be concentrating in his fruitpicking. Well, he might end up picking up some sheilas along the way LOL…since OZ is such a big country.
