Is it safe to give dogs pork bones?
There are good arguments on either side of this issue and even vets disagree. It is universally recommended to never give a dog a chicken or other small or brittle bone that may splinter and become sharp due to the chance of internal injury, however the question of beef and pork bones is debatable (I assume you are talking about a large ham bone or something of the like, not a little tiny piece of bone). Dogs enjoy gnawing on the bones and breaking them apart to get the yummy (to them) marrow inside. It is a fun treat for them much in the way Kong Stuffin’ is because they work their jaws and feel a sense of accomplishment when they get their marrow treat. Some people are still concerned about digestive problems that can be caused by gulping, and of course there are health concerns if your dog has special medical conditions.
