Is it safe to enter deeper brain states?
Yes. In fact, you do it every night during the natural sleep cycle. When you begin relaxing and falling asleep, you enter the hipnagogic state (Alpha brainwaves). Next, you enter the creative dream state when R.E.M. or “rapid eye movement” occurs (Theta brainwaves). Finally, in deep dreamless sleep all content drops away and the mind becomes still and silent (Delta brainwaves). Every human being cycles through these naturally occurring neurological states several times each night—but it all happens unconsciously. During meditation, a person consciously experiences these same natural brain states with an aware mind.
