Answer Methylmercury exposure through ingestion of contaminated fish can produce serious central nervous system damage as well as intellectual, psychosocial, and motor impairment in the fetus. This certainly apples to any roe from contaminated fish as well. As you know, the government recommendations are to avoid shark, swordfish, mackeral, flounder, tile fish,.Limit canned tuna to one 6oz can of albicore tuna or two cans of light tuna per week. There are some studies that appear to demonstrate that there is very low risk in eating fish and tht the original studies (that caused the government recommendation) were in women who consumed large amounts of infected fish. However, we still have to go by governmental recommendations. Common sense dictates that if a fish is contaminated, so is her roe.
