Is it safe for Americans in Cozumel, Mexico?
Wow, you’re really lucky. I have personally been to Cozumel and have found it to be very safe. There will always be an element of uncertainty wherever you travel, but in your case, the reward looks like it far outweighs the risk. However, you must constantly remind yourself once there that you are a tourist. Some people begin to get a false sense of security when traveling, and let their guard down. A sense of security can vanish in a matter of seconds. Check out trip advisor, be sure to talk to other tourists and your hotel staff while you are there. The hotel staff typically do a good job of steering you away from trouble spots. I would be especially wary at night no matter where you go. Also, be sure to avoid anyone trying to sell you time shares. Once you are there, be sure to do some scuba diving. Cozumel has the second largest coral reef in the world. It is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.
