Is it right to say that Tennessee Tech may have a hard time with UGA?
When Tennessee Tech has ball Lee Sweeney has established several career records as quarterback for the Golden Eagles, including most passes completed and most touchdown passes. This year he has thrown for 1,466 yards with 11 TDs against eight interceptions. Sweeney’s primary target is Tim Benford, who has two TDs and 498 yards. Donte Gay leads the ground attack with six scores and 438 rushing yards. UGA linebacker Rennie Curran has 44 solo tackles and 79 overall to pace his team and the Southeastern Conference. Edge: Georgia When Georgia has ball A.J. Green will sit out the game due to a bruised lung suffered in the loss to Florida, although UGA coach Mark Richt says he could be back in time for the rivalry game against Auburn in Athens. Joe Cox, with 15 TD tosses, 12 interceptions and 1,746 passing yards, will again get the call at quarterback, but Richt hopes to use the game against an FCS foe to shuffle players in and out. Who will win: Georgia or Tennessee Tech? The Georgia Bulldogs play their first game in Athens in a month, hosting Division I-AA, er, Football Championship Subdivision’s Tennessee Tech. It will be teams’ first meeting since 1943, when the Golden Eagles were shut out 67-0 in Athens. Tennessee’s defense has forced 16 turnovers this season and the offense is led by senior quarterback Lee Sweeney, who has thrown for 1,466 yards and 11 TDs. Tailback Dontey Gay has gained 438 yards on 81 carries with six touchdowns this season. That’s nearly 70 more yards on fewer carries than Georgia’s leading rusher, Richard Samuel.
