Is it really possible to miss a twin on an ultrasound scan?

A twin can be missed on an early pregnancy scan but if you have had a scan at around 19 weeks they would not miss a twin. The only chance was if you got someone off the street to do your scan. If a trained professional missed a twin at that stage they would not have a job for much longer.
