Is it really better to go to private colleges than SUNY or CUNY?
It is not necessarily better to attend a private college instead of a state school like SUNY. Each has its benefits and drawbacks. A private school might be smaller so you have more opportunities to work directly with faculty members. However, a larger state institution may have more extensive student services. A drawback of a smaller college is that you may end up taking all of your major courses with the same few professors, which can be a problem if you don’t like them. There are also fewer sections of a given class which can cause scheduling problems. A drawback of a larger university is that you can fade into the background and no one may notice if you are struggling. Don’t wait too long to decide if you want to transfer. Chances are that all of your classes won’t be accepted by your new school and you may end up having to re-take classes that you have already had, delaying your graduation.
