Is it realistic for one to live a life without friends?
Jordan, There’s some irony in what you’re saying–you get anxious around people and then you avoid them. When you’re avoiding people you feel lonely and that makes you even more depressed because you wish you were more confident, etc. Social anxiety involves a nasty cycle of troubling thoughts, feelings, and actions (get anxious–avoid–get depressed–anxious–avoid…). The good news is that, with help, you can stop that cycle from repeating itself. Developing your social & friendship skills might also help by boosting your self-confidence. Ask your psychologist for help overcoming your social anxiety. Also, try not to indulge in the thoughts about giving up. Even though you’ve had these problems for a very long time, know that they are fixable. Your life can be better than this, and you can make friends. These things can be learned.
