While black is usually an appropriate colour to wear to any event, including atteding a wedding as a guest, I would avoid wearing it to my daughters wedding. This is because usually, the mother’s of the bride and groom tend to buy new dresses for the occasion, and buying a black dress specifically could be misinterperted as a negative statement.
