Is it possilbe to create a human/monkey hybrid?

Though humans share almost 99% of their genome with chimps, making them our closest genetic relatives, i’d say it’s impossible for one simple reason: our genome has 23 pairs of chromosomes while chimpanzee have 24. Our chromosome 2 seems to be separated in two in chimps genome (called 2a and 2b), which suggests a “fusion” of the latter. The uneven number of chromosomes between the two species would probably result in a failed fertilization, since the homologous pairs of chromosomes (from sperm cell and egg) must pair together. EDIT – one thing is a kind of “hybrid” where the genome of a human cell is transplanted to another specie egg in a similiar process as cloning (already being done between human and cow). Another is really fusing the two genomes, as between a horse and a donkey or a tiger and a lion.
