Is it possible to use the CPE datasets to look up Civil War ancestors?

0

Our datasets are generally not suited for genealogical purposes, since our sample of the Civil War soldiers contains only 35,000 individuals. If an ancestor happened to be in one of the 303 companies which are included in our sample, however, we would gladly provide any information that we possess on that individual, upon request. The list of companies that we possess can be accessed at http://www.cpe.uchicago.edu/unionarmy/index.html. It is then necessary to select ‘Sample Design’>’List of Companies’.
