Is it possible to transmit light or current without transmission lines???

Electromagnetic waves can transmit both light and electrical energy over long distances. Since conversion back and forth between optical and (low frequency) AC power is inefficient, lower frequency EM waves are better. In addition to the Tesla concept mentioned (which proved impractical over long distances due to losses), orbital solar power stations which transmit their collected solar energy via microwaves back to earth have been proposed. For shorter distances (say within a room) resonant inductive coupling of radio frequency energy between two coils of wire is a convenient, though inefficient, way to transmit power to, say, recharge a portable device’s batteries.
