Is it possible to study languages alongside History?
Not as a part of the actual V100 degree course. In order to take History and a Language it would be necessary to do a ‘Combined Studies’ course. There are, however, facilities at the University to study a language in your own time at the ‘language labs’ and there are special, extra courses run by the Language centre for students wanting to take up a new language or to continue with one that they have already studied. Currently History students at Leicester are able to study languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Arabic amongst others. You can take up language classes at any point during your studies at Leicester. It is also possible to take part in the Erasmus scheme and spend a year at a European university, in which case Leicester would help to ensure competency in the required language. An Erasmus History Student would go abroad in their third year and do their final degree year in the fourth year of their studies.
