At grade 1, I doubt you will be able to teach yourself. A teacher is important in the early stages as well as later on. I am taking a Masters Degree in Music Performance and it involves an hour recital. I still have a teacher now and never stop learning. As for the exam, well good luck with it. I’m sure that if you hate the piano that much you probably shouldn’t carry on with it! Try a different instrument!!
