Is it possible to register and post stolen or lost items on Fine Art Registry even if they haven’t been formally registered?
Yes. Currently there are many outstanding claims of stolen and/or lost art and valuables. All items on FAR must be registered. If you currently have lost or stolen fine art or valuables that have not been recovered, and would like to register these pieces as stolen or lost on FAR, you must first purchase tags for the pieces, even though you are not in physical possession of the stolen and/or lost items. In most cases you will have photographs and the relevant information on the stolen or lost items, which will make it possible for you to formally register the item(s). The tag would be registered to you as the owner and you would then choose to mark the item(s) as stolen, thereby putting the world on notice of its stolen or lost status. Once the artwork or valuable is recovered, the tag registered to the piece would be physically applied to the item and its status in the database would then be changed from “stolen” to “recovered”.
