I have been saying for a long time that there needs to be some sort of incentive to not throw out cigarette butts. They are extremely toxic and get tossed out in the thousands everyday in cities poisoning surface water run-off that ultimately gets into our waterways and affects wildlife. My idea is to have something like a 1 or 2 cent deposit on each cigarette. Though many people would likely still throw them out, some wouldn’t and others would take advantage of the situation to collect the thousands of butts laying around our cities. Not only would this make our cities look better but it would create jobs as there would need to be places to take them and facilities to properly clean or dispose of them.
