Is it possible to purchase a cell phone without purchasing a new plan?
1) If you purchase a cellphone from another carrier, it will need to be unlocked. 2) If you’re using an unlocked phone on a carrier it was not meant for, your carrier will usually NOT be able to guarantee as good of service, feature useage, or even troubleshooting. Especially if it’s a model they don’t even carry. I used to troubleshoot, and I can tell you that even if we did carry the model, not all our features would work on another carrier’s phone, and if it was a model we didn’t have – well, there’s no information in our system on your phone. You’re on your own, bub. 3) If you want to buy a cell phone without a plan, it will likely cost a lot. Phones aren’t marked way, way up outside of a plan – they’re marked way, way down when you sign onto a plan, because the carrier is guaranteed two years in which to make back the money they spent on pretty much giving away the phone.
