Normally the bottom 4 strings of a normal guitar are bass strings. That’s how bass guitar & normal guitar are related. Just identify your need, bass guitar is normally for rhythm support, lead playing opportuinity is limited whereas in normal guitar, you can play lead too. BTW, you can ofcourse learn bass guitar without learning normal guitar…
