Is it possible to ‘overload’ the protein test swab?
A. If too much powder is added, even trace amounts of protein will produce a misleading positive result. Note that even overloading will not produce a false negative (sometimes known as a ‘hook effect’) with this test. Correct sample collection: place the swab in the powder and roll it over one time so that the surface of the swab head is covered. Tap any excess powder off the swab before placing in the protein test tube.
