to further the answer from vladozalo, there is a plan to make an earth like atmosphere on mars by first raising the temperature with a greenhouse effect by using carbon dioxide, and then using this warm temperature and high CO2 content to cultivate plants on the planet’s surface, thus creating a pleasant environment.
