Is it possible to litter train degus?

This is going to take a lot of training and patience and believe me it won’t happen overnight! To get started, I would recommend that you watch your degus in the cage, and when (eventually) one uses the tray as a toilet, reward them immediately with a treat. You’re going to have to do this several times before your degus get the idea, but it will be worth it in the end. This might involve long periods of sitting with your degus cage (why not watch TV at the same time?), but as they learn to associate relieving themselves in the tray with reward, the frequency of use will go up. When they’ve got the idea of using it in the cage it’s time to introduce it to their play area, and the process starts again (but hopefully will be learnt quicker). If you get stuck, I’m always here to help, but patience is the key here I’m afraid!
