Is it possible to learn how to paint with watercolors from a book?
If you think you learn better by reading written instructions, there are a lot of highly rated books that will teach you the fundamentals of watercolor painting. (For example, are you able to follow a recipe in a cookbook? If so, then you’re probably able to follow other types of written instructions.) The downside of this is that you may just learn to *copy* things from the books, and never really learn how to branch out and take the techniques you’ve learned and apply them to your own paintings. But at that point, it might be the right time to try a class again. You’ll get the benefit of personal attention from an instructor, but you won’t feel as if you’re in over your head. That said, if you’re not the type of person who usually does well with written instructions, you should probably look for another beginning watercolor class that better suits your needs.
