Is it possible to have signs of ovulation but an egg is not released?
Every now and then, we may have an anovulatory cycle, in which ovulation does not occur, but it should be rare. It’s also possible every now and then to have a cycle in which 2 eggs are released around the same time, which is also rare. If you are taking your basal body temperature (or first morning temperature) readings, the observance of a thermal shift indicates ovulation. For example, during my pre-ovulatory phase, my temperatures this month ranged from 97.0 to 97.5, with one random spike at 98.1 (which I believe was due to illness, because I eventually got sick). After ovulation, my temperatures jumped to 97.9 to 98.4, with one spike at 98.7 (which was the day after I had a temperature of 100.2 the night before).
