If you are overweight then eating excess sugar can contribute to getting diabetes faster than you would have otherwise. If you are not overweight the excess sugar can contribute to heart disease and cancer, but is not likely to initiate type 2 diabetes. Intake of sugar has nothing to do with type 1 diabetes. The main problem here isn’t your sugar intake, but that you have become an emotional eater. That is no different from becoming an alcoholic, and you need to get it in check before you gain way too much weight. Never ever stuff your feelings down with a pill, a drink OR with food. It is all the same and diabetes will be the least of your troubles later in life if you keep eating to satisfy and emotional pain.
