Yes, this is possible. In addition to the encryption included in the OFTP protocol (unique ODETTE ID) it is possible to encrypt data before the transmission (offline) and to decrypt data when receiving those. Each communication partner, who wants to exchange encrypted data generates a key pair, a private and a public key. The public key is exchanged. The key administration cannot be influenced by the user at the moment. As a result transmissions via public nets such as X.25 or ISDN are more secure. This applies especially to IP based transmissions on the internet.
