Is it possible to drive from Fairbanks to Barrow, AK in August by motorcycle?

No. You can drive from Fairbanks to Dead Horse (Prudhoe Bay), but there are no roads between Dead Horse and Barrow or Kaktovik. It’s all tundra up there, with zero services. I would NOT recommend attempting such a journey. Tundra in August is similar to a wet sponge about 8 inches thick, sitting on top of ice (permafrost). It is illegal to drive on it, because it takes the tundra many years to recover from it. During the summer the oil industry uses helicopters to transport materials/people in the areas where they were not allowed to build roads. Also, the mosquitoes on the North Slope in late summer are unbelievable. I’ve never seen sketers like that anywhere else. You need to shower in deet just to go outside. Also, it starts freezing back up in late August. By mid-September the north slope will be white again.
