Is it possible to drink too much water while dieting. I feel and look bloated?
First of all, I just learned that when they say you should drink so many glasses of water a day, they don’t really mean that. It means that you should consume that much liquid into your body which could consist of water, soup, tea, any moist food, etc. Also, if you’ve drastically changed your diet, you sort of put your body in shock. Try easing into the diet. Everything you’re eating will give you gas. The water is moistening all that fiber and blowing it up, like a dry sponge gets bigger when wet. This may be the bloating feeling you’re having. Try backing off a little and put back some of the foods your body is used to, then wein yourself into your new diet. Hope this helps.
Yes, you can drink too much water. The hype about drinking a lot of water is in any case unfounded and stems from the 50’s. More recent research shows that we don’t need to drink that much water, as our food often consists of as much as 95% water. I have personal experience of this. I once drank 8 glasses of water a day for a week or two and started feeling really ill. I looked pale and yellowish and developed diarrhea. You are not drinking too much water. Water is a necessary part of your diet. 8 glasses is minimum, they say you should drink more when you are dieting. A couple reasons are it flushes out your system, keeps you feeling full, boosts your metabolism. You may be feeling bloated if you aren’t used to eating many vegetables. That is probably what is making you feel bloated and giving you gas. I think you will eventually get used to it, it may just take time. You definitely need to eat lots of fruits and veggies! GOOD LUCK!!!
