Yes it is possible to download a movie free and legally IF the movie producer, director, actors, crew, etc are OK with the fact that you are getting something of value without them getting a cent from the sale or rental of the movie. So film-makers who just want their art or message to be seen, or advertisers who want their products to be seen (and bought) are happy to give their movies away for free. Otherwise nobody involved in creating the movie wins.
