Is it possible to change the color of laminate floor?

A laminate is a fake wood, sometimes they can essentially be an elaborate photocopy under a protective layer, other-times they are a mixture of glues and natural/recycled elements to acheive a certain effect. So there would be no way to sand that back to apply a floor stain, as you would quite literally sand the laminate layer away. The minimum you would need is a veneered floor, which is a cheap base (MDF etc) with a few millimetres of real wood on top. Depending on the thickness of that veneer, you could sand it back and apply a stain and reseal. Also, a further setback for you would be you’re wanting to go from dark to light, even on a darkly stained solid wood floor, it requires a lot of effort to sand away enough wood to get to the original colour, which can then be stained another hue– but if the original colour is darker then your desired result, then you’re left with very few options (emulsion paint staining etc).
