Is it possible to cancel a check that was cashed?
Generally, the answer is no. Possibly you can if the person who cashed the check has an account in the same bank as you. Talk to your bank branch manager; he/she may or may not be able to help you with this, especially if it was deposited in an account in the bank. It is probable that you will incur a stop check charge (and perhaps there could be other types of bank charges, too). In many cases, the only recourse is through court (small claims court or otherwise) if it is of sufficient amount. If the check was obtain fraudulently or under false pretense, then advise your bank accordingly and file a police report. Still, you may not get your money back.
