Is it possible to bump start a 2.5 ltre diesel engine?
Yes, but not in the way you or I normally expect to bump-start something. With most modern engines, you need some electrical power to energise the stop solenoid, otherwise no fuel will get through. There’s a spring-loaded valve which cuts the fuel off to stop the engine, and the solenoid needs to be kept powered to hold the valve open. Providing you can overcome that and get it on a decent hill it probably will start – eventually. You ought to keep a tow available though, just in case. Once had an old diesel van with a primitive pull-the-knob stop control, that one would bump off but it took a fair bit of grunt to do it. That’s for UK vehicles, looks like the Americans don’t have the same problem.
Its possible to bump start a 2.5ltr diesel, however given the higher compression of the engine you need to be a little more careful about how you do this. The best way to do it is to tow the car behind another car and use second gear to bump start it. If you get some diesel engine cold start spray you stand a much better chance of starting the engine. Ja.
