Is it possible to become a journalist without going to University?

Hello I did work experience at the bbc points west and spoke to a reporter there. Basically you can either do work experience or get a low paid job in the media career and work your way up which to be honest can work in your favour because they like someone with experience and life skills. Or you could do a university degree. Another tip he told me was that you don’t necessarily have to do media studies, they prefer for you to have another interest in say politics, history, etc that you can write about and experience at any paper, magazine or whatever is worth so much more!
